Sammy Dolgin is a data science consultant and the owner of Stepwise Data LLC. Since beginning freelance and consulting-based work in January 2020, he has worked with over 50 clients across all primary domains, including major global sports leagues, investment firms, non-profit organizations, medical researchers, and everything in-between.
Sammy is an alumnus of Loyola University Chicago, where he studied Economics and Statistics. Following over four years of experience in fintech and adtech, he attended the NYC Data Science Academy to gain a deeper understanding of programming and machine learning theory. Upon graduation, Sammy was hired as a teaching assistant and worked with over 100 students on developing data science skills and careers.
In July 2020, Sammy ventured into full-time self-employment, operating under Stepwise Data. While Stepwise primarily focuses on working with small/mid-sized businesses, the company also works with individuals and groups in a mentorship role to develop data science skills. This led Sammy to a simultaneous part-time role as the lead instructor for Trilogy Education’s FinTech program with The University of Pennsylvania. He teaches fundamental programming skills, data analysis, machine learning, market forecasting, and blockchain technology.
Sammy’s primary interest in data science is data munging in Pandas, including data cleaning, preprocessing, merging, and reformatting for specialized reports. He also enjoys building and optimizing tree-based algorithms, developing simulations, and technical writing.
Outside of the data science world, Sammy enjoys discovering and listening to new music, playing guitar, watching video game speedruns on Twitch, reading about emerging technology and investments, and daydreaming about post-pandemic travel.
